Sala San Pio X
The San Pio X Hall houses the Cathedral Treasury, rich in vestments, silverware, and statuary. Some Neapolitan sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries introduce us to the extensive collection of the San Pius X Room: the Salvator Mundi and Saint Simeon
The medieval cathedral
Once the island's archdioceses were established by the 11th century, it was also necessary for Oristàno, the new capital of the kingdom or giudicato d'Arborèa, to build the cathedral and archiepiscopal palace. For the occasion, these marble plutei, dating from the end of the 11th to the beginning of the 12th century, were made. They served as the presbytery gate of the originally Romanesque church, separating the space for the clergy from the rest of the hall.
Liturgical Codes
The Cathedral of Oristano holds among its treasures the richest and oldest collection of codices from medieval Sardinia, now preserved in the Diocesan Museum of Arborense. This collection consists of 13 liturgical manuscripts on parchment—lavishly illuminated—most of which date back to the period of the Giudicato of Arborea.
Archeology
La Collezione archeologica, acquisita agli inizi del Novecento dal Seminario Arcivescovile, è costituita da oltre cinquecento vasi di età punica e romana, da una ricca raccolta numismatica, da alcuni reperti di età protostorica, da pochi vetri, tre capitelli in marmo e da diversi calchi di iscrizioni di catacombe cristiane.
