The Arborense Diocesan Museum houses in the San Pio X room a rich and extensive collection of carved, polychromed and often gold damasked wooden sculptures, coming from the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the church of the Madonna del Carmine, the Archbishop's Seminary of Oristano and the bishop's palace.

The oldest testimony is the fragmentary Group of the Eight Apostles, whose small statuettes, still retaining the authentic polychromy, adorned – together with alabaster elements unfortunately lost – the high altar of the Oristano cathedral in the early sixteenth century. The commission contract for the majestic retable, which has extraordinarily come down to us, recalls its creation by the Stampacino painter Pietro Cavaro and the Catalan sculptor Jaume Rigalt after 1535.

The wooden, carved and polychrome sculpture group consisting of 8 statues of the apostles, created by the Catalan sculptor Jaume Rigalt in 1535 (the 8 surviving apostles of the original twelve initially constituted the predella of a monumental altar from the Cathedral of Oristano).
