The museum
The heart of the museum is the San Pio X Room, which houses a rich collection of the Cathedral’s Treasure, including liturgical furnishings, sacred vestments, and precious ritual items spanning from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era. Among the exhibited works stands out the precious altarpiece Madonna with Child and Saints from the late 13th century, probably the first gold-leaf work to arrive in Sardinia and one of the earliest examples of Tuscan Gothic art inspired by Franciscan culture.
The Exhibition Gallery hosts temporary exhibitions, as do the Seminary Halls, which feature a rich archaeological and numismatic collection from the original “archaeological cabinet” of the Archbishop’s Seminary.
The Mythos Room hosts temporary exhibitions, solo shows by emerging artists, and workshops.
The Museo Diocesano Arborense presents itself as a highly interesting cultural hub, capable of going beyond its role of active conservation of works, engaging in dialogue with the city, the Diocese’s territory, and beyond, through initiatives and events that bring the public closer to the spiritual beauty of art.
